Our Mural
We are very proud of our connection to the amazing Artists and creative individuals that call Nelson home.We have one of the largest and well known outdoor murals in the city. Painted in 1995 by Finnish Artist, Siirpa Alalaakkola, it is titled 'Modiglianis Trout'. The mural is in the style of famous Italian artist Modigliani, known for his use of mask-like faces and elongated forms. It features a humorous take on an iconic New Zealand outdoors scene. Take a a look when you get here. Not only has she captured the wonderful New Zealand Great outdoors with a fresh style she has dropped in a couple of famous Kiwiana references that she so often includes in her pieces. See if you can recognise them? Don’t worry if you can’t we’ll help point them out when you get here
